healthy torrent decides to just close

Description

I can have a very healthy torrent just opt to close on me. I'll have 300+k/s download speed, and, all of a sudden, the torrent will close and handshakes just get dropped...If I just hammer Ctrl+S, my speeds won't plummet too hard, but that's about the only way I've found I can keep my downloads working.

I am using 0.7.8 on Gentoo. Everything was just perfect for a really long time, but I'm not sure when this issue cropped up first...I didn't change anything in my rtorrent configuration, though.

Sounds like you have low disk space, either modify the default low diskspace event or free some space on your drive.

I had this problem as well. Checked df (I had over 300M free), checked everything else I could think of. After upgrading to rtorrent 0.7.9 I could see the disk space message (which isn't reported in 0.7.8). After dicking around in .rtorrent.rc, I setup a schedule event for keeping track of when to close due to low diskspace.

Might it be better for the default behavior to not perform this check and simply fill the filesystem to full and complain at that point? Most people who don't know about this feature are going to be fine with keeping track of disk space themselves, and confused when the "disk is full" with several hundred MBs reported as free in df.

People wanting rtorrent to fill up their disk are the exception, not the rule.
